LED with Pass/Fail Graphic Overlay

This basic display quickly and clearly shows whether a bill passes or fails in counterfeit detection. If the bill passes as genuine, the screen will illuminate a clear “PASS” message in green. If a bill is suspected of being counterfeit, the screen will illuminate a clear “FAIL” message in red.

High Resolution LCD

This screen type presents the opportunity to display much more information beyond basic pass/fail messaging. Units with LCD screens can also display the denomination type of the bill in question and currency type, such as USd for US dollars. The brilliant blue lit screen is easily visible in any lighting environment. More advanced units can even include on-screen reports with the number of each denomination tested during each run of use.

Counterfeit Detection Methods

Detection Methods

Cassida's counterfeit detectors employ a variety of methods to determine if a bill is authentic or suspect. Below are the methods that may be used by a detector depending upon the model. View the counterfeit detector comparison to see the counterfeit detection methods utilized by each model.

Magnetic Ink Detection

When currency is printed, magnetic ink is used leaving trace amounts of iron in the print, which has magnetic properties. The magnetic sensors in models that include magnetic ink detection, search for this magnetic property on the bill. If the magnetic properties in the ink are not detected, the counterfeit detector will flag it as a failed bill that is suspected of being counterfeit.

Magnetic Ink Detection

Many currencies, like United States and Canadian, include infrared features that are only detectable under infrared light. Infrared detection looks for these “invisible” marks that indicate a bill is genuine to determine that it is, in fact, authentic currency.

These infrared features are also designed to be machine readable, so detectors with denomination recognition are also able to determine the denomination of the bill by reading these markings.

Color Spectrum Analysis

To help further guard against counterfeiting, bills are printed with colored inks that are printed in a complex pattern specific to each denomination. More advanced counterfeit detectors, like the Cassida Quattro, will scan the note for this colored ink using a specialized sensor to ensure that money in question is in fact genuine.

Size Detection

Size detection measures the physical dimensions of a bill to ensure they are in line with what is expected. In the US, all paper currency is one uniform size regardless of denomination. When detecting US currency, size detection checks that the bill in question does match the standard size.

Canadian paper currency is also all one uniform size, although Cassida’s standard counterfeit detectors are only intended for use with US currency.

Counterfeit detectors with a denomination display offer an additional layer of security when checking for counterfeits. On-Screen Reporting

On-Screen Reporting

More advanced counterfeit detectors can also provide reporting features in addition to detection. On-screen reports may include the total number of bills run through the machine given an active session along with the total monetary value of those bills. Reporting may even further dive down into the total count for each denomination that has been run during that session as well.
